Value: 2.43 Crore | The lone HDMC swimming pool in Hubballi is getting a facelift at a cost of Rs 2.43 crore under the Smart City project
A Mangaluru-based company took possession of the swimming pool and started the renovation work on Wednesday. The work, which includes repair of water tank, toilets, upgrade of the diving platform and ticket counter, is expected to be completed within two-and-half months, informed S H Naregal, special officer, Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Ltd
Sources said that the facility will get an open gym, deck for meditation, children’s play area, litter bins, drinking water dispensers and rainwater harvesting pit. The swimming pool premises is also expected to become disabled-friendly
Reacting to the development, social worker and swimmer Mohan C said that the HDMC should ensure that the renovation and upgrade work is completed within the stipulated time
Frequent closure of the swimming pool to carry out repair work has been an eyesore for regulars to the facility
In January 2018, it was closed due to inadequate water supply. It took the HDMC six months to streamline the water supply by laying new pipelines. This prevented students from using the swimming pool during their summer vacation
